Mixed Weekend Away 2023

Our annual Mixed Weekend Away took place last weekend, August 25th to 27th, 36 golfers of all abilities descended on Oulton Hall Golf Resort and Spa. The venue, staff and food was great and the weather was kind to us  with only a few outbursts of rain, most of us managed to keep dry.

The weekend away commenced with, a meet and greet, tea coffee and bacon rolls on Friday morning. As is customary with the mixed weekend away over the past few years, whilst eating bacon rolls all were kept in suspense as to what, 2023's TWIST would be, the organisers had prepared early, with the purchase of 9 new, bright and shiny yellow golf balls, nobody was disappointed. Today's golf format was 4 ball AMAM Stableford mix up, with aim of the game to score big and return the allocated yellow ball, a few teams failed and in the case of one team, who enlisted family and friends to help search for their precious yellow ball, but to no avail, however fun was had by all.  Friday evening's entertainment was held in the private function room for our Mixed section, where we were served a lovely three course dinner followed by games and prize presentation of the days winners, alongside the customary crowing of the King, Queen and Joker of the day.

Day 2, Saturday, "almost" everyone was up early for a full English breakfast, raring to go for the main competition of the weekend The Mixed Holiday Salver with some couples even going to the extent of wearing colour

co-ordinating outfits. Today's format a 4BBB Pairs Stableford was a serious affair with everyone pulling out all the stops to be the winners of the Trophy  donated by the late Mick Foote and Margaret Channing when they were Captain's together in 2001.

Moving onto Saturday evening, we were joined by a whole host of celebrities in our private function room for again a lovely three course dinner, including: Adele, Gary Barlow, Tess Daley, Ricky Gervais, Ant and Dec and our very own Prince and Princess of Wales (William and Kate).  Followed by the prize presentation of the days winners, crowning of the Royals for the day and then (drum roll) the highlight of the weekend "The Mix up Mix up" draw for Sunday's fun format.

The Red and Blue Team Captain's took their places and the room fell silent, team red to go first followed by blue, after lots of laughter, camaraderie and respectful banter the teams were drawn and golf shirts allocated ready for the play off on Sunday.

Day 3, Sunday Red vs Blue "Mix up, Mix up, after what could be described as a heavy night mixing with the celebrities, surprisingly everyone was up bright and early and after a hearty full English breakfast raring to go.

It certainly was a colourful sight on The Hall Course at Oulton Hall today with each mixed couple eager to fight the good fight for their allocated team.  The fun format created lots of laughter and fun banter, with some matches being won or lost on the 18th, despite a valiant effort by the blues the Trophy was taken by the Reds (this year)
